EIGER stands for Edison Ingersoll Gaylord Education Research, in honor of Edison Gaylord, the late CEO of Ingersoll Milling Machine Co. Eiger is also the name of a mountain peak in the Alps that is popular with climbers, symbolizing the “pinnacle of advanced manufacturing.”
